Indonesia part II

Day 9-10- Kuta Cont’d- Had to log onto the computer and work. Spent hours trying to convice people that you can plug a cable into a labtop without destroying the desktop you just unplugged it from. Crazy how all the people who work at internet café’s here don’t know how a computer or internet works.

Day 11-Bus to Java (Yogjakarta). We bought tickets (Adam and I) for the neighbor island of Java. The 12 hour bus trip turned out to take 17 hours. We left Bali (denpasar) at 1:30pm and got into Yogjakarta at 7:30PM. My backpack was stored under the bus along with something that leaked and smelled like rotten fish. Nevertheless, now my backpack reeks. Big time. I showered with my bag and spent the day on the town walking (much to the displeasure of the bike-taxi people). We were the only tourists here. I spent hours trying to figure out the local slang for gringos/tourists, but no one understood….or there just isn’t one. The city is about ½ million people and disgusting. The rivers are overflowing with trash and streets are dirty. Guess we found the anus of Indonesia, and that so far is the island of Java. Unlike Bali which is predominantly hindu, Java is 95% muslim. Most girls sport their headscarfs, little kids try out their one English phrase, and the burgeoning surplus of Becak (bike-taxis) heckle you for not using their services. Good thing I don’t understand Indonesian or I might be insulted. TOmmorrow we will either climb one of the most active volcanos of a sunrise hike, or visit the larges buddist temple. Who knows, All I know is I cant wait to get out of this city.

To be continued (day 12 Borobudar and Sulwesti)
