...and her name is Zady Rey Hobson.
We woke up around 3am on 3/21 and headed to the Hospital as Alex was having contractions and her bags of water was leaking. As once the bag of water breaks, the risk of infection increases, we were admitted to the hospital even though Alex's contraction weren't very strong yet (rule they told us was 4:1:1- come in when you have been having strong contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting over a minute each, for at least 1 hour).
So we started the long waiting game of sitting around until the cervix dilated 10 cm. We were worried at first, as it took 6 hours to dilate to 2 cm and another 4 to get to 3cm, but then it took off skipping to 7, 9, and then 10 and poof- one more tiny little human joined the world.
Zady was 7 lb 11 oz and perfectly healthy. Alex was exhausted after 18 hours of labor and delivery, but healthy as well. The Moms came in that night and did what they do best.
Here Zady is, now a week old
How did we come up with our name? Whelp, as we both had lists of names we liked, but neither list had a same name on it, Alex and I were talking about how to come to some form of truce. We wanted a name with significance behind it. We selected Zady as it was a derivative of Sarah/Sara, which is Alex's mom and also a named shared by my third favorite cousin, and to honor my Zadie, Yiddish for grandpa, my mother's father and one of the coolest people I've ever known. Although the name solicited an "oye" from Ma, both Alex and I like androgynous names and Zady was a popular name back in the 1880, which is my favorite decade (not really). Lastly, no one really speaks Yiddish anymore and if we tried to pick a name that didn't translate into something wierd in any language, we wouldn't have any names left. Ben, phonetically, means "idiot" in Chinese and "come" in Spanish.
We chose Rey for her middle name for Point Reyes, the place were Alex and I first met and went for a hike with the Moms. Rey just flowed better than Reyes.
Anyho, I'm in love and she is the most beautiful little thing I have ever seen.
