I spent last weekend looking over University of Oregon Law school with my gracious hosts Joseph and Sandy. They were kind enough to house me and show me around campus. Its a great school, and counting aid from both school, $15k cheaper than U Maryland per year. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and one school isnt superior to the next, so the ending decision may end up being based off of the financials. I'm still awaiting communication from UMD to see if they'll up my aid to match, and havent heard from UC Davis yet.
After Oregon, I headed to Mom's house, where I am currently. We spent sunday picking up some stuff near San Jose, and going wine tasting at some uppity vineyards on this gimongous hill. It was a gorgeous day (as it is every day in CA), and the wines were good, but not as good as the price they wanted per bottle. I dont know about you but a $35 bottle, unless frikin fantastic, is not worth getting, and often pearls before swine (kosher swine that is) for me.
This Friday mom is hosting some office party at her house and I'm expected to cook for some for it. Its a hard act to follow after the annual flawless feast at Chet Kay for passover. I dont know how she does it every year, but planning for small things like this makes me respect the power of Kay's kitchen even more. She makes it look so easy. They're expecting sangria, which I haven't made since spain (10 years ago about), fresh bread, the whole 9 yards. I'm feeling the pressure especially 'cause mom keeps telling everyone I'm some reknown chef and to expect only great and unique things. There goes my peanutbutter and fluff sandwich first course..... Maybe they'll think month-old matzah is exotic? "oooo, jewish food.."
I'm worried. I'm out of cooking shape. Lets hope for the best.

Ben!
You are a GREAT cook........you just have to plan what to make and orchestrate everything. Auntie Kay can help with a menu if you so desire, but I know you have wonderful creativity in that department already. Thanks for the blog mention! All of us here are thinking about you and where you'll wind up for law school. Passover next year in Oregon?? Wait, do they even have matzah there?? Enjoy the CA weather and don't work too hard. love, AK et al
